Yamaha TZ 700, 1974

200 miles from Daytona (Florida USA) March 1974, Giacomo Agostini, the most successful motorcycle pilot on the planet, has just joined the Japanese Yamaha firm after years run on MV.
He participated for the first time in this race on a brand new motorcycle out of the workshops of Yamaha Competition, the TZ 750 A (Four -cylinder online, two times and 700 cc).
Agostini will win this first race in front of the American pilot Kenny Roberts also on Yamaha TZ 700.
Agostini will reoffend with the same machine for the 200 Miglia Di Imola in Italy the same year.

Based on the Yamaha YZR 750 0W19, Japan Champion 1973, the TZ 750 A was a “privateer bike”. It will be produced in more than 200 copies between 1974 and 1976.

This extraordinary machine will win the Formula 750 championships:
1974: John Dodds Yamaha TZ 700
1975: Jack Findlay Yamaha TZ 750
1976: Victor Palomo Yamaha TZ 750

The TZ 750 A (1974) were equipped with 700cc cylinders, the 750 B TZ and C (75 and 76) 750cc cylinders.
For the first three years (74, 75 and 76) the TZ 750 was equipped with two straight shock absorbers and flat exhaust.
Subsequently, from 1977 the Yamaha TZ 750 Privateer bike will be available in different models with mono shock absorber suspension (cantilever) and round exhaust.

These models derived from the famous factory 0W31 (TZ 750 D 1977, E 78 and F 79) will be produced to allow private pilots to participate in international competitions.
Factory pilots using 0W31 will be 750cc world champions (Steve Baker 1977, Johnny Cecotto 1978).
The French driver Patrick Pons will use a TZ 750 F and win the 1979 world championship).
1979 will see the end of the 750cc world championships, and the TZ 750 and other 0W31 will no longer be produced.

The history of the Yamaha TZ 750 A from 1974 that we offer is known.
In 1974 Michel Bétemps, racer and Yamaha dealer in Chambéry will order this new TZ 700 from the importer Sonauto Yamaha and will entrust it to one of the best French pilots of the time, René Guili.

It will be recovered by our consultant Hubert Rigal who will entrust it to one of the Yamaha preparers of the best known Jacky Germain.

This fully restored motorcycle will join a Parisian collection.
